Children's Swimming
We offer a variety of swimming for children at Bluecoat Sports
Parent and Baby Drop-in sessions
These drop in sessions are supervised by our friendly instructors and will help your child gain confidence in the water in a fun safe environment with the use of toys and games. Available to both Members (Free) and Non Members these session can be booked up to 7 days (Members) and 5 days (Non Members) in advance by calling reception on 01403 247572.
Waterbabe Lessons
Waterbabe classes cater for the younger child (pre-school) and are suitable for children aged 2 years upwards. Classes run on during the week in the mornings and at lunchtime and are available to Members and Non Members. The sessions are for 20 minutes and the parent or guardian accompanies the child in the water. Lessons are bookable on a termly basis and priority booking is given to Bluecoat Sports Members. After School
Lessons for school-age children (4½ years plus) take place after school during the week and on Saturday mornings, catering for complete beginners to advanced swimmers. These structured swimming lessons follow the AquaQuack swimming scheme and children are able to work towards certificates and badges.
These lessons are available to both Members and Non Members and are bookable on a termly basis. Priority booking is given to Bluecoat Sports Members and siblings of children that are currently being taught in the swim school. For lessons starting in September, members can book from 12 July and non-members from 15 July. Bookings are taken from 10:00 in person on these days or after 14:00 on the phone.

As we are a dual use facility, sharing the pool with Christ's Hospital School, our swim school times do vary from term to term
For the More Advanced Swimmers
Children interested in lifesaving would enjoy our Rookie Programme which runs after school during the week and on Saturday mornings. The lessons consist of half an hour dry side based activities and half an hour wet side activities covering:
- rescues,
- water safety,
- casualty management
- first aid.
Children must be 8+ years old and be confident in the water.
After finishing the Aquaquack syllabus, children may like to continue swimming and there are two options:
Barracudas
non-competitive swimming club which runs after school which tweaks the swimmers technique whilst improving their stamina, strength and competitive discipline.
