Have you ever wanted to learn to swim or would you like to perfect your strokes? Then we have just the thing for you at Bluecoat Sports!
We run beginner and improver lessons during Tuesday evenings and Friday afternoons throughout the year in 10 week blocks. Whether you are a complete beginner or someone who is looking to improve their stroke we have a class for you.
Want to Keep Fit?
Why not join the Bluecoat Swim School Adult Coaching Sessions on a Tuesday evening, suitable for swimmers who want to improve fitness through a structured, but fun, coaching session which includes distance swimming, sprints and technique. All swimmers must be able to do lengths and be proficient in at least two strokes (to include front crawl).
Early Bird Sessions
For those early risers, our Early Bird sessions are on Wednesday and Friday mornings from 07.00 - 08.00 and include stamina, stroke and fitness coaching with our resident swimming coach Steve Wadey.
National Pool Lifeguard Qualification
Monday 12 - Friday 16 July 2010
08:30-18:00
The aim of this course is to attain a comprehensive range of lifeguarding skills which are required within a leisure centre facility.
Candidates MUST be 16 years of age prior to starting the course.
Candidates should be able to swim a minimum of 100 metres on their back and front continuously, swim 50 metres in 60 seconds and dive to a depth of 2 metres. They should be able to swim breaststroke and have some knowledge of sidestroke.

Bluecoats Swim School
After School Lessons
Lessons for school-age children (4½ years plus) take place after school during the week and on Saturday mornings, catering for complete beginners to the more advanced. These structured lessons are taught by our professionally trained Swim School Instructors.
Parent and Baby Drop-In Sessions
Parent and Baby Drop-in sessions are supervised by our friendly instructors and will help your child gain confidence in the water in a fun safe environment with the use of toys and games.
Waterbabe Classes
Waterbabe classes cater for the younger child (pre-school) and are suitable for children aged 2 upwards. Classes run on Wednesday mornings and on Fridays after lunch. The sessions are for 20 minutes and the parent or guardian accompanies the child in the water.
Rookie Lifesaving
Children interested in lifesaving would enjoy our Rookie Programme which consists of half an hour dryside and half an hour wetside covering rescues, water safety, casualty management and first aid. Must be 8+ years and be able to swim in deep water
Baracudas and Junior Coaching
After finishing the Swim School syllabus, children may like to continue swimming and there are two options:
- Barracudas, a non-competitive swimming club running on Mondays (17.30 - 18.30) or Fridays (17.30 - 18.30)
- For those purely wishing to continue swimming to maintain their fitness levels, there is drop-in coaching session on Sundays from 17.30 - 18.30
Children's Swimming Courses
During the school holidays, Bluecoats offer week long intensive swimming courses for those wishing to brush up on their technique, learn a new skill or just try something completely different. Courses run for half an hour for 5 days and improvements can be dramatic. An example of the courses which we offer are:
- Beginners (must be 4½ years old)
- Stroke Clinics
- Breaststroke/Butterfly Stroke Clinic
- Front Crawl/Backstroke Stroke Clinic
- Mini Polo
- AquaFun (Synchronised swimming)
