Here at Bluecoats, we believe an excellent team is fundamental in our customers’ enjoyment of the Health & Fitness Club and we are committed to developing our team to provide the best possible service and quality to all of our customers, whilst enhancing individuals’ skills and experience. We promote and develop our team so that they progress in a familiar environment. All of our employees share a passion for sports and leisure pursuits and have the commitment to go “the extra mile” to help our customers achieve their health and fitness goals.
We are fortunate to work in a beautiful, rural setting and we offer a competitive pay and benefits package, Club membership and Stakeholder Pension Scheme. We support our employees with sponsorship to acquire further qualifications in a variety of health and fitness disciplines benefiting both the Club and the individual.
Starting out in Health & Fitness
We receive lots of enquiries from individuals wishing to join us to start their career in leisure, having recently left school or college.
The role of Recreation Assistant provides an ideal entry level position to our team and the leisure industry. To qualify you must hold a valid National Pool Lifequard Qualification (NPLQ) as we boast a fabulous pool facility and a big part of the role is life guarding. The role supports the Duty Manager in ensuring that the Club is kept clean and safe for our customers, so duties include setting up and setting down sports equipment for activities and classes, cleaning and maintenance and Reception. The role has enabled members of our team to progress, via promotion to roles such as Duty Manager, Receptionist and Fitness Instructor.
National Pool Lifeguard Qualification (NPLQ)
We provide and run our own NPLQ courses at the Club, as we are fortunate to enjoy the benefits of in-house Royal Life Saving Society (RLSS) qualified trainers and assessors within our own team. To undertake the NPLQ course, you must be at least 16 years old and be competent at swimming to levels specified by the RLSS. The cost of the NPLQ course is £170, which includes the final assessment. Courses normally take place over 5 days between the hours of 9am to 5.00pm with assessment taking place on the final day.
If you would like to find out more about forthcoming courses and swimming competency levels please contact our Swim School office on 01403 247616, who will be happy to answer any questions you have.

As well as employing full-time qualified Recreation Assistants we also have a team of qualified casual Recreation Assistants, who undertake a wide variety of working hours.
